Hull's high street is among the country’s most thriving high streets, according to new data.
Retail closures across the UK have reached a five-year high – with 16 stores shutting every day.
But Hull has sustained the performance of its high street, according to a study by online investment platform Asktraders.
The research looked at open data from Link ATM, Which? and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) which analysed ATM, retail store and bank closures in 50 of the largest cities and towns in the UK.
Top 20 high streets according to Asktraders data.
Asktraders then looked at the percentage of opens and retail growth in comparison.
Conversely, Hull’s Yorkshire neighbours York, Sheffield and Leeds all appeared in a list of the 20 worst-performing high streets.
Mark Jones, Hull City Council’s director of regeneration, said: “While every high street in the UK is facing challenges, this data shows Hull has successfully adapted to the difficulties facing city centre businesses.
“In Hull, we have recognised that high streets are no longer only about retail and sustained our high street by enabling change.
“The huge upcoming Albion Square development, the regeneration of Whitefriargate and our Hull: Yorkshire's Maritime City project will ensure that visitors continue to be attracted to a vibrant city centre.”
