The Hire Me event will allow students and their parents to talk to employers and education providers for first-hand advice.

Hire Me in Hull takes place at the Guildhall on Tuesday 15 October.

Humber businesses are hosting an event to help make the career aspirations of the region's young people a reality.

The Hire Me event in Hull and Scunthorpe will give those looking to take their first steps on the career ladder the chance to talk to employers and education providers for first-hand advice, as well as their parents and carers.

The event will include workshops on topics such as completing application forms and writing CVs, the different types of interviews, good interview techniques and the best etiquette tips.

It has been organised by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Enterprise Advisor Network, made up of many of the region’s major employers, alongside the Careers and Enterprise Company.

This event is aimed at students in years 11, 12 and 13 to assist them with understanding the next steps into apprenticeships, employment and university. There will also be an opportunity to speak to the businesses delivering the workshops directly.

Companies such as RB, ABP, Sinlgeton Birch, KCOM, City Healthcare Partnership, Airco and HETA will take part.

Dr Kirsty Clode, Chair of WiME (Women into Manufacturing and Engineering) said:  “Generally people won’t get jobs without passing an interview - that is how employers recruit. I am keen that we give young people practice in interview skills.

"There is a way of doing it well, and there is a way of doing it badly. An interview can be an art. We are supporting the Hire Me event to ensure young people have the best chance of passing that important interview.”

The Hull event takes place at the Guildhall on Tuesday 15 October from 4pm to 7pm.

The Scunthorpe event takes place at the Baths Hall on Wednesday 2 October from 4pm to 7pm..
