The former House of Fraser building in Paragon Street is to be relaunched as a dining and shopping brand featuring an artisan food market.
A Hull property firm has been hired to oversee the redevelopment of one of the city centre’s most recognisable buildings.
The former House of Fraser building in Paragon Street is to be relaunched as Hammonds of Hull, a dining and shopping brand featuring an artisan food market, it was revealed last month.
Now the landlord of the building has announced a partnership with Hull property experts Garness Jones to manage the transition.
The firm is now seeking businesses to take up space across the basement, ground and first floors of the building.
The new venture will be “in keeping with the European food Halls of Lisbon and Barcelona” if successful, according to the landlord.
Councillor Daren Hale, deputy leader of Hull City Council, said: “We have been working closely with the building-owners and it is great to see the Hammonds name return to this key city centre site.
The new venture in the former House of Fraser building will be called Hammonds of Hull.
“The proposals are exciting and ambitious and could potentially put Hull on a par with the food hall offerings in Manchester and Birmingham.
“It is clear there is a belief in the future success of the business and, from discussions, we know there are exciting times ahead.”
Garness Jones will offer leasing opportunities to a range of businesses and give advice to prospective tenants on spaces ranging from 1,000 to 60,000 sq ft, with flexible office suites and headquarters available.
Paul White, of Garness Jones, said: “We are thrilled to have partnered with Hammonds of Hull and we are looking forward to the redevelopment of the much-loved building.
“We will be on the look-out for a whole host of tenants. The space is really flexible, so we would urge anyone thinking about it to give us a call.”
Hammonds of Hull is expected to open early next year.
