Two of Hull’s famous old shopping centres are in line to scoop a national award.

Trinity Market and Hepworth’s Arcade, nominated as a pair, could soon be named as Britain’s best high street.

The two have been shortlisted in the Champion category of the Great British High Street Awards, pitting them against places including Glasgow, St Albans and Royal Tunbridge Wells.

The nomination sees the historic Hull venues named along with another 25 popular high streets which will now go forward into a public vote – this will contribute to 30 per cent of its overall score with the rest being made up the thoughts of an expert judging panel.

The winner will then be selected on their community spirit, customer experience, what the environment is like and how they are moving towards digital technologies.
