People in Hull and the East Riding have just over a month to have their say on the devolution proposal for the region, as the consultation reaches the midway point.

Thousands have already taken part in the public consultation on the proposal, which could determine the future of the area.

The devolution proposal includes the formation of a mayoral combined authority, which could bring more than £400m of investment and greater control over decision-making in the area for both Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Both councils are urging residents, business owners and employees to read the proposal and have their say before the consultation ends on Tuesday 27 February.

People can do this via the online survey here or by visiting in-person events held across Hull and the East Riding, listed below.

Cllr Mike Ross, leader of Hull City Council, said: “As we reach halfway through the consultation period, I would like to thank the thousands of people who have already had their say by filling in the survey. It is important that thousands more do as well.

“It has been a pleasure to speak to residents at our consultation events across the city and hear first-hand their thoughts and questions on the proposal.

“This is the chance for you to influence what the future of this region could look like, so I urge everyone to either go online or visit one of our upcoming events to complete the survey.”

Cllr Anne Handley, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We have had a fantastic response to the consultation so far and it’s been great getting out and finding out what people think about devolution, answering their questions and helping to clear up some misconceptions about what devolution is.

“I must stress again; this is not a proposed merger of our two councils or areas. The mayoral combined authority would be a separate entity and both councils would continue to carry out their day-to-day operations separately.

“We have already heard from thousands of people and we’re only halfway through the consultation, so please, if you haven’t already, read the proposal, come to our events, complete the consultation and have your say. We want to hear from you.”
