Hull is one of the UK’s leading foreign-trading ports, handling more than 12 million tonnes of cargo and serving more than a million passengers every year.

The Port of Hull is a key economic driver, with some 16,000 jobs in the city relating to port activity. It sees Hull holding a vital role in growing the tradable economy in Yorkshire and beyond.

The Port of Hull is owned and operated by Associated British Ports and is one of the UK’s leading foreign trading ports with links to Northern Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic states. The port allows a market of 40 million people to be reached within a four-hour drive - and 320 million within 24 hours.

It handles 12 million tonnes of cargo per year across a variety of cargoes, including lo-lo and ro-ro traffic, forest products, general cargo, liquid bulks, paper, forest products and 100,000 containers per year and boasts the UK’s first fully enclosed cargo handling facility for weather-sensitive cargoes.

Gateway to Europe

The city is an essential component in the partnership of port-based businesses – the UK’s largest multi-purpose ports complex. It accounts for some of Europe's largest integrated shipping and logistics networks and provides supply chain solutions around the clock.

The partnership offers access to the northern UK markets unrivalled for travel time, distance and cost. Its position as the UK’s busiest port complex – and fourth-busiest in Europe – is set to grow as the Humber takes its place in the emerging Northern Powerhouse.

The Siemens Gamesa terminal offers a huge range of port solutions, from deep-water berths, storage and heavy-lift marine operations to a full turnkey service for wind farm and vessel operators transporting offshore loads to the North Sea.

P&O Ferries handle one million passengers per year on daily services to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.

Hull continues to build on these success stories as it aims to attract further inward investment and business development.
